It will work (I've tested this using a Dell R510 as "SAN" running Open-E DSS) but it's not something you would want in production, as you have no support for Flow Control and all the other features, but mainly flexibility. So, it's possible but I would look towards some storage switches, just to make your setup scaleable and more production ready.
